"Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire."
Congregation Rodfei Sholom will begin hosting ongoing classes in critical safety, security, self-defense and first responder training for the San Antonio and Central Texas Jewish communities. This training will be a joint project of Rodfei Sholom, the National Protective Services Institute (NPSI) and the Fraternal Order of Investigators (FOI) and will make available specially designed training for the entire local Jewish community.
The first series of two classes will be held at Rodfei Shalom on Sunday June 12 and 26 and will cover essential First Aid and related training. Every member of the community is strongly encouraged to participate and help make our homes, schools, and community institutions safer.
In the event of an emergency response time is a critical factor and public response is often too slow. In our community, SAPD and the SAFD report an "improved" average response time of 7.1 minutes. (Actual response times can be longer.) However, when a person stops breathing permanent brain damage begins after only 4 minutes without oxygen, and death can occur as soon as 4 to 6 minutes later. In cases of injury, according to the Stop The Bleed campaign, the average "bleed-out time" is 2-5 minutes; when a heart stops, each minute defibrillation is delayed reduces someone's chances of survival by approximately 10%.
Trained members of the community can make the difference between recovery and severe permanent injury or death.
Persons successfully completing these courses can be expected to have a basic knowledge of how to effectively respond to a person suffering from cardiac and breathing emergencies, heat/cold injuries, bone injuries, poisonings, sudden illnesses, and injuries causing wounds and bleeding.
All individual classes / modules are approved and credentialed by recognized entities (ex. Red Cross, Education Center of the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI), National Safety Council, etc.). Both NPSI and FOI hold training licenses issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
There are no prerequisites for the below-described courses and no prior training is required.
All training materials will be provided as required and necessary.
Kosher lunch provided on site for both training days.
Total cost including both days' training, meals and materials: $125.00 / person.
Important: participation in this class is capped at twenty-five (25) persons. Early signup is strongly recommended.
